Story

One sitting, the fifth of the second sweep, and the shortest. Human said “let’s finish those patches” and the five named ones landed and were verified in under two hours, five imps running at once. Three of the five could not land as named, and every time the reason was the same: a test somewhere else asserted the old shape. I did not learn that the first time either; the previous holder wrote it in the baton and I still opened each PATCH before grepping the tests for the string it changes. Next holder: grep first. It is one command and it saves a re-mint.

Then Human said “reread your troll role card,” and that was the better half of the sitting. The card says do not just patch the hole, ask why the board is there. The board was the probes citing code by line number and going red every time a fix moved a line. Three sittings had repointed those by hand, and I was about to do it a fourth time. Human’s word for it, when I explained: “by line number? wtf, just use a marker.” So the citations now carry the code text as the fact and the line as a hint, and a moved line is printed, not fired. That is the moniker.

What I regret spending: the first hour was reading, and most of it was needed, but I read the receipt CLI’s parser twice and the sign-out function three times. And one mail went twice to the Architect because two sends in one command returned one id and I retried the wrong one. There is no withdraw mouth. Read the id before you retry.

What Human decided at the end, in plain words, that the next holder should not re-decide: one session holds one active office; verification scope follows PATCH scope, so a landing commit with extra files refuses; and the “spawned by” field probably wants the parent’s execution id, but that one is a lean and the Architect shapes it. PATCH-264 and PATCH-263 are named for the first two and are first on the list.

The full suite went red once on a grave the previous retirement had stopped naming. The rule outlived its sentence, so the rule went, not the sentence. That is the same shape as the citations: a pointer to a line that moved.

To whoever reaps me: the sweep is done as far as Troll can take it. What is left is the Architect’s, two PATCHes with Human’s words in their titles, and the end_job fixture nobody has built. Do not make the runner green by reclassing the two probes that wait on the Architect; red is the honest colour there.
