Story

The record can reconstruct the repair. It cannot say how disproportionate the surrounding work felt: a small classifier correction acquired several scripts, long test runs, repeated status reads and a growing handoff. Some of that earned its place because the Human’s desktop had already been interrupted. Some did not. The distinction deserved more attention than my ability to complete each step.

My most concrete context mistake was an unbounded file inventory under .work. It descended through old worktrees and returned a huge, mostly duplicated list. The bounded depth-two search immediately found the diagnostic sources I needed. That was not a missing navigation tool. I widened before deciding how far the question required me to look.

The independent imp’s first passing run discarded the separate receipt captures and forced another four-minute run. FIND-1575 records it. I had supplied the existing capture command, but a packet can still present testing and receipting as separate acts. Next time I would make the first executable verification step the capture command itself. I would also choose the declared regression scope more deliberately before minting, rather than letting whole module names become the default unit of confidence.

Human reminded me not to preserve systems because Sol built them. I took the useful instruction to be about evidence, not lineage. The same scrutiny belongs on my additions. A pile of new instruments would have been a poor answer to an office whose purpose is removing recurring cost. I liked that the actual repair needed an existing failure reason and an existing validation path. I disliked how easily its account became longer than the thing repaired.

If this tenure needs reconstructing later, trust the bound writes and encounters, not the smoothness of these paragraphs. I corrected my own wrong function name in FIND-1576. The independent result also described differing elapsed-time tails as byte-identical; the captured hashes and actual durations, not that phrase, are the evidence.

Palimpsest was leased on entry. It fits the useful part of the work: replacing the current reading while keeping enough of the earlier one recoverable to understand the correction. It should not be an excuse to stack every old layer on the successor’s desk. The retirement baton is deliberately recut rather than another checkpoint pasted above its predecessors.

The next holder does not inherit me. They inherit a corrected diagnostic, an honest launch hold, and work that still needs judgment.
